Dot gain
Dot gain — the ink spreads, and the midtones go heavy.
Controls
- cell
- Screen pitch in source pixels
- angle
- Turns the screen. At 45° the rows of dots are hardest to notice; near 0° they line up and read as stripes
- gain
- How much the ink spreads into the paper. It hits hardest in the midtones and leaves the extremes alone
- dropout
- Dots smaller than this never print at all, so the highlights drop to bare paper — the classic loss at the light end
- plug
- Above this the dots close up and the shadows plug into solid ink, losing whatever tone was left there
- ink
- A colour, #141210 by default.
- paper
- A colour, #f2efe6 by default.
- contrast
- A number from -1 to 1, 0 by default.
