- How many frames fit across the width. It is both the number of bands and how far back in time the far edge looks
- axis
- Which way the slit runs. Across columns time flows left to right, across rows top to bottom — two different pictures of one movement

- Which edge holds the current frame. Time runs into the past towards the other one
