Pixel drift

A pixel that never got replaced, dragged along the read direction.

Pixel drift: a glitch effect on the built-in sample photograph. Computed on your machine right now.

Controls

axis
Which way memory is read, and so which way the smear runs
trigger
The brightness at which a pixel sticks and starts dragging. High leaves only the highlights smearing while the shadows stand still
hold
How much of the stuck value survives into the next pixel. The length of the trail comes out of this and holds at any size
split
How separately the three channels drift. At zero the smear is grey; at one each channel sticks on its own and the trail turns colourful
jitter
How ragged the sticking is. At zero it starts strictly by brightness; at one the boundary tears and trails come in clumps
