Sync loss
A television that lost the top of the picture: the frame rolls and tears.
Controls
- roll
- How far the frame has slipped. A set losing vertical hold does not lose the picture — it loses where the top of it is
- skew
- How far the rows lean right after the tear, and which way. The line scan is thrown off at the seam too
- settle
- How fast the lean is caught up. Small keeps the damage to a thin seam, large tips the whole frame
- bar
- Height of the blanking bar — the moment the beam is on its way back up and there is no picture at all
- snow
- How much snow fills that blanking bar
- hum
- A slow wave across the whole frame from badly smoothed mains power. Unlike the skew, it does not stay near the seam
